According to the report, there was an alleged conspiracy to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, an American-Canadian citizen, general counsel for Sikhs for Justice, and a designated terrorist in India

In response to security concerns raised by the United States, India’s external affairs ministry spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, announced on November 29 that a high-level committee has been established to investigate the issues at hand.

The U.S. recently communicated its apprehensions to New Delhi, expressing worries about a potential “nexus between organised criminals, gun runners, and terrorists” within India. This revelation came in the wake of reports that US authorities had thwarted a plot targeting Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Bagchi stated, “During the course of recent discussions on India-U.S. security cooperation, the U.S. side shared some inputs pertaining to the nexus between organised criminals, gun runners, terrorists, and others. The inputs are a cause of concern for both countries, and they decided to take necessary follow-up action.”

According to the report, there was an alleged conspiracy to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, an American-Canadian citizen, general counsel for Sikhs for Justice, and a designated terrorist in India. The report mentioned that US President Joe Biden raised the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a meeting at the G20 summit in New Delhi in September.

On November 29, Bagchi issued a detailed statement emphasising India’s serious consideration of such inputs. “We have already said that during the course of discussions with the US on bilateral security cooperation, the US side shared some inputs pertaining to the nexus between organised criminals, gun runners, terrorists, and others. India takes such inputs seriously since they impinge on our national security interests as well, and relevant departments were already examining the issue. In this context, it is informed that on November 18, 2023, the Government of India constituted a high-level Enquiry Committee to look into all the relevant aspects of the matter. The Government of India will take necessary follow-up action based on the findings of the Enquiry Committee,” the statement read.
