The decision was met with a significant police presence outside the court during the verdict announcement, aimed at preventing any potential violence from SDPI supporters
After a judge handed down death sentences to 15 SDPI-PFI activists for the murder of BJP OBC Morcha leader Ranjith Sreenivasan, she faced a barrage of cyber threats. Allegations surfaced on social media accusing her of bias, purportedly due to her connections with the RSS. These posts included derogatory remarks and even shared her photo. Concerned for her safety, Kerala police took immediate action to enhance her security measures.
The judge had categorised the case as “rarest of rare” and imposed capital punishment to the Naisam, Ajmal, Anoop, Mohammed Aslam, Abdul Kalam, Saffarudheen, Manshad, Jaseeb Raja, Navas, Sameer, Nazir, Zakir Hussain, Shaji and Shernas Ashraf.
This decision was met with a significant police presence outside the court during the verdict announcement, aimed at preventing any potential violence from SDPI supporters. Ranjith Sreenivasan, a BJP member and lawyer, met a tragic end when PFI members brutally murdered him at his home in December 2021.
One of the Facebook posts under the account name ‘Rubeena Rubi’ read – “The judge is an RSS district leader representing the RSS Zilla Parishad. Her job is to rob the money from the public exchequer, the order which she receives from the RSS headquarters. And she is the Hindu right-wing extremist who read the order copy in 10 minutes”. The judge’s photo was posted following the post.
During the pronouncement of the verdict, around 500 to 700 SDPI activists gathered outside the court premises, necessitating tightened security measures. Despite the threats, a dedicated police team comprising six members, led by a sub-inspector, has been deployed to ensure the judge’s personal security.
