Manipur To Cancel Licences Of Non-Compliant Private Security Agencies

Government aims to enforce Private Security Agencies Regulation Act (PSARA) strictly

The Manipur government will soon begin cancelling the licences of private security agencies that do not meet the criteria outlined in the Private Security Agency Regulation Act (PSARA), 2005.

Manipur Joint Secretary (Home), Dr Mayengbam Veto Singh, announced this at the closing ceremony of the 2nd Batch Security Training of the Homeland Group. He highlighted the increasing demand for private security services, as government security and police forces are unable to monitor all businesses and industrial establishments in the rapidly growing state.

Dr Veto Singh noted that 25 private security agencies are currently registered with the Manipur Home Department. He questioned whether all these agencies possess the necessary infrastructure, such as proper training grounds, and comply with the PSARA, 2005 requirements. “To strictly implement the PSARA, 2005, the government will soon begin taking necessary steps, including background checks on private security agencies in the state. Licences of agencies not meeting the Act’s criteria will be cancelled,” he asserted.

Emphasising the importance of implementing the regulation, Dr Veto Singh explained that PSARA is a central government act enacted in 2005 to regulate private security agencies under a legal framework. Homeland Group Director RK Babloo also spoke at the event, noting the rapid advancement of private security agencies, with many multinational companies and reputed hotels seeking more security guards.

He also mentioned the initiative of providing security training to unemployed youths in the state through a joint venture between the Homeland Group and the state government.
