To streamline travel for attendees, the Prayagraj division of North Central Railway has introduced a modernised ticketing system
Preparations are in full swing for the Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings, set to take place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26, 2025. While millions eagerly prepare for this sacred event, experts have raised alarms over potential cybersecurity threats targeting pilgrims.
Dr Rakshit Tandon, an internationally recognised cybersecurity expert, has cautioned devotees about online scams related to hotel bookings and ticketing services. In a recent Instagram reel and podcast with Gurpreet, Dr Tandon highlighted malicious advertisements and fake booking platforms designed to deceive unsuspecting pilgrims.
“Hackers are exploiting the occasion to spread false information and fraudulent advertisements,” Dr Tandon warned, urging people to rely solely on the official website, **kumbh.gov.in**, for accurate information and secure bookings.
Simplified Ticketing System
To streamline travel for attendees, the Prayagraj division of North Central Railway has introduced a modernised ticketing system. Railway staff equipped with QR codes on their uniforms will help pilgrims access the UTS mobile app for unreserved ticket bookings. This initiative aims to reduce crowd congestion and improve convenience during the event.
Safety Tips For Pilgrims
Dr Tandon also advised against downloading unverified APK files, referencing a similar threat seen during the Ayodhya inauguration. He emphasised the importance of protecting personal devices, suggesting a factory reset for those who may have accidentally downloaded suspicious files.
“Cyber threats are evolving, and events like the Maha Kumbh present lucrative opportunities for malicious actors,” he said, highlighting the need for vigilance among attendees.
As the Mela draws closer, authorities are amplifying efforts to ensure both physical and digital safety for millions of devotees. Pilgrims are advised to follow official guidelines and exercise caution while planning their visits.
