Firefighters faced challenges in controlling the inferno due to the highly flammable nature of the chemicals stored at the site
A massive fire engulfed Sarvodaya Solvents Pvt Ltd, a chemical manufacturing unit in Cherlapally Industrial Area on Tuesday afternoon, sending thick black plumes of smoke into the sky and causing panic among nearby residents and workers. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported.
The fire reportedly started around 1:30 pm in the chemical storage section of the factory, which is known for producing solvent-based chemical products. Workers present at the time of the incident noticed the blaze and quickly evacuated the premises. Emergency services, including multiple fire tenders, were rushed to the scene.
Firefighters faced challenges in controlling the inferno due to the highly flammable nature of the chemicals stored at the site. “The situation was critical initially as solvent-based chemicals ignite and spread fire rapidly. However, the timely response helped in preventing the blaze from spreading to adjacent units,” said a senior fire officer leading the operation.
It took over three hours for the fire to be brought under control, though cooling operations continued into the evening. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but officials suspect a possible chemical reaction or short circuit.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Malkajgiri Zone) Naresh Reddy stated that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire and assess compliance with safety protocols. “We have cordoned off the area, and forensic experts will collect samples for analysis. Factory management will also be questioned about safety measures in place,” he said.
To ensure public safety, nearby roads were temporarily blocked, and residents were advised to stay indoors to avoid inhaling toxic fumes. No damage to surrounding factories or properties was reported.
Officials from the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TPCB) have been deployed to monitor air quality in the region. “We are conducting tests to assess pollution levels and ensure that no hazardous chemicals have contaminated the environment,” said a TPCB official.
The management of Sarvodaya Solvents Pvt Ltd assured full cooperation with the investigation. “We are relieved that all our workers are safe. We will work with the authorities to determine the cause and strengthen our safety protocols,” said a company spokesperson.
This incident has once again highlighted the need for strict adherence to safety standards in industrial zones, particularly those dealing with hazardous chemicals. Authorities have assured that stringent measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
