Global cybercrime is a major issue, affecting people and businesses worldwide. Hackers steal data, spread viruses, and attack computer systems for financial gain or information
In today’s digital world, keeping information safe is more important than ever. The Security Trinity, also known as the CIA Triad, is a key concept in cybersecurity that ensures data remains protected. It consists of three important principles: Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability.
These three elements work together to create a strong security system. If any one of them is compromised, personal and organisational data can be at risk. As cyber threats continue to grow, understanding the Security Trinity is essential for protecting sensitive information and maintaining digital safety.
“In the realm of security, no domain exists in isolation – the physical, the cyber, and the operational domain each play a unique role yet are interconnected in safeguarding the assets and the people under our protection,” said Rupal Sinha, President, BVG India.
Global cybercrime is a major issue, affecting people and businesses worldwide. Hackers steal data, spread viruses, and attack computer systems for financial gain or information. Common threats include phishing emails, ransomware, and online scams. As more people use the internet, cybercriminals continue to find new ways to exploit vulnerabilities. Strong cybersecurity measures and global collaboration are crucial to combating these crimes and keeping information safe.
“Looking at the Russia-Ukraine war, the estimated global impact cost was roughly USD 1 trillion, whether in energy crises, trade disruption, or military aid. However, by the end of 2025, statistics indicate that global cybercrime will cost at least USD 10.6 trillion annually,” Sinha added.
Data breaches have become a growing concern as cybercriminals increasingly target businesses, government institutions, and individuals. These attacks expose sensitive information such as personal details, financial records, and passwords, leading to identity theft and financial losses. Hackers often exploit weak security systems to gain unauthorised access, putting millions at risk. As cyber threats continue to rise, experts stress the importance of strong cybersecurity measures, regular system updates, and increased awareness to prevent such breaches.
“The IBM Cost of a Data Breach Report states that the global average cost of a data breach is approximately USD 4.45 million per incident. Beyond well-known government cyberattacks, the healthcare sector tops the chart, with the average cost of a breach rising to USD 10.9 million, followed by the financial services, technology, and energy sectors,” Sinha said.
Sinha shared her insights during a keynote session themed ‘The Security Trinity: Leadership Across Physical, Cyber, and Operational Domains’. The session was part of the 2nd Edition of the BW Security World 40 Under 40 Awards.
