India’s aviation security body has escalated vigilance across the nation’s airports following intelligence warnings of a possible terrorist or “anti-social” threat targeting civil aviation between 22 September and 2 October 2025.
In a directive issued on 4 August, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) instructed all civil aviation stakeholders—including airports, helipads, airstrips, flying schools and air force installations—to implement heightened security protocols immediately.
At Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport , New Delhi, a supplementary level of surveillance has been ordered. The August 5 order mandates continuous monitoring and swift response capabilities, citing elevated vulnerability in the run-up to Independence Day, with potential threats extending into late September and early October.

Security measures now include rigorous ID checks for all staff, contractors and visitors; round-the-clock CCTV surveillance; and intensified patrols of terminals, parking areas, perimeters and other designated zones .
To bolster coordination, the BCAS has urged seamless intel-sharing between the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) , local police forces, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and other relevant agencies. Additional security layers—including Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and Secondary Ladder Point Checking (SLPC) —have been mandated for all flights through 20 August to safeguard ground and in-flight operations.
Airlines and airport operators have been instructed to enforce stringent screening of cargo and mail , while also reviewing and drilling emergency response protocols . Periodic announcements will encourage passengers to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity or unattended items.
