The US Consulate, in partnership with the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA), has launched the inaugural US-India Cyber Security Initiative. The announcement was made by US Consul General Mike Hankey during his presence at the MCCIA Pune Business International Business Summit on Monday.
The initiative, as described by Hankey, aims to bolster IT connections between the United States and India by bringing together top cyber security experts globally. Its objectives include job creation and the development of cutting-edge solutions in the realm of cyber security. Hankey emphasised the timeliness of the launch, noting the rapid advancement of digital technologies in human history.
According to Hankey, establishing a secure, resilient, and stable cyberspace is important for the growth of both public and private sectors, facilitating the global population to benefit from the free flow of information online. He underscored the priority of cyber issues in the bilateral relationship between the US and India, highlighting the need to minimise cybersecurity threats while ensuring that the digital revolution fosters global prosperity and stability.

Speaking to the media following the event, Hankey elaborated on the remarkable transformations witnessed in various sectors such as artificial intelligence, advanced telecommunications, critical and emerging technologies, bioengineering, and energy.
The Cybersecurity Initiative, according to Hankey, signifies the close collaboration between the two nations, with its advancements promising economic and social benefits globally. He outlined the centre’s mandate, which involves collaborating with research institutions, industry, and civil society to enhance cyber defences, infrastructure, and protect sensitive information.
Expressing pride in the partnership with MCCIA, Hankey concluded by affirming the shared vision for an open, secure, and prosperous world through the establishment of secure and prosperous IT connections between the US and India.
MCCIA Director General Prashant Girbane echoed Hankey’s sentiments, emphasising the strategic importance of the Initiative for citizens, businesses, and governments.
In his address at the summit, Hankey reiterated the extraordinary transformations unfolding in various technological domains, highlighting the significance of the Cyber Security Initiative in addressing evolving cyber challenges.
