India-U.S. Discussed Terrorism, Drug Trafficking, Illegal Immigration At Homeland Security Dialogue

Both sides reviewed their existing collaboration in counter-terrorism and security, highlighting its significance within the broader India-US strategic partnership
India and the United States recently held discussions aimed at strengthening their cooperation on various critical issues, including terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and money laundering. The talks took place during the Homeland Security Dialogue held in New Delhi on Wednesday.
A key outcome of the dialogue was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the US Federal Law Enforcement Training Centre and India’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, focusing on law enforcement training.

Both sides reviewed their existing collaboration in counter-terrorism and security, highlighting its significance within the broader India-US strategic partnership. They explored ways to enhance joint efforts in combating terrorism, violent extremism, drug trafficking, organised crime, and ensuring transportation security.

Emphasising their commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties, the two nations pledged to facilitate safe and legal migration while countering illegal migration, human trafficking, money laundering, cybercrimes, and the misuse of the cyber domain for illegal activities, including terror financing.

The Indian delegation, led by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, and the US delegation, headed by Kristie Canegallo, Acting Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security, expressed their eagerness to increase collaboration between their respective law enforcement agencies. They discussed exchanging information, building capacity, providing technical assistance, and holding regular meetings of sub-groups to further enhance cooperation.

The dialogue underscored the shared interest of India and the US in consolidating their mutually beneficial partnership in addressing various security challenges through collaborative efforts and continuous engagement.
