The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is gearing up to introduce the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. This system, to be implemented in the first week of June, promises to overhaul traffic control and enhance road safety. This update has been confirmed by both highway police officials and senior MSRDC figures.
In the initial phase of implementation, 39 gantries have been set up across a stretch of 95 kilometers along the expressway. These gantries, which are large metal structures that span across the road, house a total of 218 CCTV cameras armed with artificial intelligence. These cameras are capable of spotting 17 different types of traffic violations, ranging from speeding to improper lane changes. Furthermore, all cameras and toll booths will be equipped with automatic number plate recognition technology, streamlining the process of issuing e-challans by the police.

With the introduction of ITMS, authorities aim to revolutionize traffic management and bolster safety measures on this vital roadway.
According to officials, the implementation of ITMS is a significant step towards modernizing the infrastructure and improving the overall commuting experience for motorists traveling between Mumbai and Pune. The system is expected to not only reduce instances of traffic violations but also facilitate quicker response times to accidents or emergencies on the expressway.
Overall, the introduction of ITMS on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway marks a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance road safety and streamline traffic management in the region.
