To ensure the team’s safety, two companies of paramilitary personnel will be deployed to prevent any unwarranted incidents
Delhi Police have made extensive security arrangements for the Indian men’s cricket team’s arrival on Thursday, July 4. The team, returning home after their historic win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, will be provided with armed escort upon their arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport early in the morning.
To ensure the team’s safety, two companies of paramilitary personnel will be deployed to prevent any unwarranted incidents. The Indian cricket team faced travel disruptions due to a hurricane in Barbados, which altered their initial plans to travel to New York and then to Mumbai. In response, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized a special Air India plane, AIC24WC – Air India Champions 24 World Cup, to accommodate over 70 personnel on Wednesday.
Fans are expected to gather in large numbers at Delhi airport to welcome the new T20 World champions. Delhi Police are making necessary arrangements to provide ample security for the Indian cricket players and coaching staff.
“Adequate police force will remain deployed on the routes from the airport to the hotel. At least two companies of paramilitary personnel have been deployed around the hotel and routes in central Delhi,” a senior police officer stated. The team is scheduled to land around 6 am after departing from Barbados’ Grantley Adams International Airport on a chartered flight.
The Indian cricket team will be escorted to ITC Maurya Hotel, with security measures in place throughout their route. The police force has also deployed additional personnel around the hotel and the surrounding areas in central Delhi.
Following their arrival, the team is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 11:00 AM for breakfast. After the meeting, they will depart for Mumbai, where the BCCI has organized a victory parade and a welcome event at Wankhede Stadium.
