Following a tragic incident at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) has taken action by issuing a notice to stadium authorities. The notice directs them to halt all events on the premises until fire safety norms are updated and renewed.
DFS Chief Atul Garg stated that the stadium authorities were instructed to cease using the entire complex for games, events, and functions. This decision comes in response to a recent fire incident that occurred in the stadium’s CCTV room on March 13, around 7:30 am. The blaze originated in the lower basement of the main arena near the P-1 tunnel.
“We have asked the stadium authorities to discontinue using the entire stadium complex for holding games, events, and functions,” said Garg

Upon investigation, it was found that the stadium’s fire safety certificate had not been renewed. Consequently, on March 15, a letter was sent to the authorities regarding this matter.
The DFS’s action underscores the importance of adhering to fire safety regulations to prevent further tragedies. It also highlights the need for responsible oversight of public venues to ensure the safety of all patrons and visitors.
