Enhanced Security Measures For Amarnath Yatra With Drone Surveillance & Real-Time Monitoring

Security forces to increase surveillance on Amaranth Yatra
The ADGP also directed officers to strengthen security and reduce potential risks by deploying anti-sabotage teams along the Amarnath Yatra route

Jammu and Kashmir’s security forces will step up their surveillance and threat detection capabilities for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra by using advanced drones and real-time aerial monitoring. These measures will be implemented along both pilgrimage routes: the Pahalgam and Baltal axes. This information was shared by ADGP Law and Order, J&K, Vijay Kumar, who emphasised the need for improved surveillance tactics and increased personnel deployment.

During a joint meeting with police, Army, and other agency officers at the Police Control Room, Vijay Kumar highlighted the importance of identifying and assessing areas vulnerable to landslides, snow avalanches, and rockfalls. He called for strategies to enhance vigilance and proactive measures in these areas.

The ADGP also directed officers to strengthen security and reduce potential risks by deploying anti-sabotage teams along the Amarnath Yatra route. These teams are tasked with identifying and neutralising possible terror threats.

A police statement described the discussions as thorough, focusing on the overall security arrangements needed for a safe and smooth Yatra. The meeting was attended by key officials, including ADGP Jammu Zone, IGP Kashmir Zone, and IG BSF.

Addressing concerns about local and tourist movement during the Yatra, the meeting established cut-off timings to minimize disruption and inconvenience. “Yatri or tourist vehicles would be taken to safe places or yatra camps en route if plying beyond designated cut-off timings at various points along the route,” the statement said. Stakeholders were briefed on the protocol prohibiting vehicle movement beyond these timings.

The importance of preparedness and proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure the safety and security of the pilgrims was also emphasised. The statement underscored the need for collaboration among stakeholders and the implementation of robust contingency plans to address unforeseen challenges.

Additionally, the meeting called for the use of specialized forces like the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) to map vulnerable points. These points will be monitored regularly to enhance overall safety measures, the statement added.
