SentinelOne, a prominent company listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), has announced its acquisition of PingSafe, a Bengaluru-based cloud security platform, for an impressive sum of $100 million. This acquisition marks the largest deal in the Indian cybersecurity startup sector to date.
The deal, as outlined in a report by Barclays, involves a combination of stock and cash transactions. The anticipated completion of the acquisition is expected to take place in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025.
Founded in 2020 by Anand Prakash and Nishant Mittal, PingSafe offers a centralised dashboard that delivers real-time proof of exploitability by deploying harmless payloads to simulate hacking attempts on customers’ infrastructure, facilitating the immediate detection of vulnerabilities.
PingSafe emerged from stealth operations and introduced its CNAPP platform, driven by attacker intelligence, to the public in July 2023. The company secured a $3.3 million seed funding round, with Peak XV Partners leading the investment. CNAPP is a software platform designed to streamline the monitoring, detection, and response to potential cloud security threats and vulnerabilities.
Anand Prakash, aged 30 and originally from Churu in Rajasthan, is renowned as one of the top-ranked white hat hackers globally. He has discovered vulnerabilities in major companies such as Uber, Meta, and Twitter. Prakash was recognised in Forbes’ 2017 list of 30 under 30 for enterprise technology in Asia. Meanwhile, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Nishant Mittal is an alumnus of IIT, Dhanbad, and brings five years of experience in the digital payments ecosystem from his tenure at PhonePe.
The acquisition of PingSafe by SentinelOne underscores the growing importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital landscape and highlights the recognition of Indian talent and innovation in this critical field.
