Minister Sharan Prakash Patil calls for enhanced safety measures in Medical institutions
Karnataka’s Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, Sharan Prakash Patil, has recommended integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into security systems to enhance the safety of women healthcare workers across the state. The suggestion came during a high-level meeting at Vikasa Soudha, where security measures at medical colleges, hospitals, and hostels were discussed.
Patil highlighted the importance of collecting feedback directly from women healthcare professionals and other key stakeholders to ensure that their concerns are addressed. “Directors of medical institutions must gather feedback in writing and take concrete steps to implement necessary measures,” he urged, calling for active participation from institutional heads in the process.
Security Audit Committee And Personnel Vetting
A key proposal during the meeting was the formation of a security audit committee, which would convene monthly to review and strengthen safety protocols. Patil also stressed the necessity of thorough background checks for all security personnel to ensure a safe working environment for healthcare staff.
24/7 Canteen Facilities To Enhance Safety
To further bolster the security of women healthcare workers, Patil recommended the establishment of round-the-clock canteen services in medical institutions. This would eliminate the need for healthcare staff to leave the premises during late hours, thereby ensuring their safety.
Implementation Panel To Oversee Progress
Patil revealed the formation of a panel at the State Secretariat to supervise the implementation of these measures, ensuring that all proposed safety enhancements are effectively put into action.
The meeting also featured a presentation by B L Sujatha Rathod, Director of Medical Education, detailing the current security initiatives already in place. Senior officials, including Mohammad Mohsin, Principal Secretary of Medical Education, Mission Director of National Health Mission Y Naveen Bhat, and Venkateshmurthy, Joint Secretary, were also in attendance.
