Kenya Enlists Private Security Guards To Boost Investment & Security

This partnership aims to reassure Kenyans of their safety, enabling them to continue their business activities with confidence

In a bid to enhance property and investment security within the country, Kenya has called on private security guards to support national security efforts. Kiambu Subcounty Deputy County Commissioner Titus Macharia announced that the government has initiated reforms aimed at improving the communication skills and public relations of private security personnel.

Macharia made these remarks during the graduation ceremony of 500 guards from 10 private security firms at the Dazzling Centre of Professional Security Studies School in Ndumberi.

“There is a curriculum set by the government which guards must undertake, and it involves communication skills which are important. Having a uniform does not mean guards are bigger than other Kenyans; they must learn how to interact with people so that they can feel free to engage the guards,” said Macharia.

He highlighted the crucial role of private security guards in the national security framework, noting that the police have welcomed their collaboration. This partnership aims to reassure Kenyans of their safety, enabling them to continue their business activities with confidence.

“We want Kenyans to enjoy their rights, we want them to invest, we want them to be sure about their safety and security so that their creative juices may flow to create opportunities for employment,” Macharia added.

He urged the guards to approach their duties with passion and maintain a positive attitude while dealing with the public. He also called on private security firms to ensure fair wages for their guards, recognizing that many families depend on their income.

“Every time you look at an employee, you know that there are several people behind him or her who are depending on the salary they are getting,” Macharia said.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, a guest at the ceremony, emphasized the importance of private security officers working with dignity, earning a living, and providing for their families.
