Leading the Charge In Corporate Security: ASIS International’s Delhi Chapter

The event also highlighted the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives led by the “Women in Security” and “Young Professionals” Committees

The Quarter 3 ASIS Chapter meet took place on July 18, 2024, at Wipro Limited’s office in Gurugram, marking a significant moment in the field of corporate security. The event was organized under the guidance of Harvindra Singh, Chairman of ASIS International (Delhi Chapter), and was well-received by those in attendance.

The event drew over 120 participants, all eager to engage with the latest advancements in security. Wipro Limited, the event’s main sponsor, went beyond simply providing the venue. They also treated attendees to a generous lunch and gifted each participant with a thoughtful gift bag, contributing to the event’s welcoming atmosphere.

Keynote Address By Col A. L. Suresh

The keynote address was delivered by Col A. L. Suresh, who spoke on “Setting up a Center for Excellence for Physical Security Systems and Operational Technology.” His presentation captured the audience’s attention as he detailed the various roles of a Center of Excellence (COE) in managing technology, exploring new technological advancements, ensuring IoT security, and understanding organizational trends and threats.

Engaging Fireside Chat

One of the highlights of the meet was an engaging fireside chat between Umesh Kumar, VP of Physical Security, Risk & Control at NatWest Group, and Capt. Sanjay Sharma, Global Security Head at Wipro Limited. Their conversation focused on the future of corporate security, addressing pressing questions and challenges in the field.

When asked by Mr. Kumar to choose between Artificial Intelligence and Human Intelligence, Capt. Sharma adeptly explained the necessity of combining both. He emphasized how smart technology is increasingly important in aligning security practices with business goals. The speakers also discussed the emerging threat of deepfakes, noting that there is currently no structured response to this growing concern.

Resilience Reboot Workshop

Another key component of the event was the “Resilience Reboot” workshop conducted by Niharika Karamchandani and Tanya Vatsa from Inquest Advisories. This workshop encouraged participants to develop strategies for responding to three critical scenarios: a ransomware attack at a global tech company, a warehouse fire, and a pandemic-induced lockdown.

CSR Activities & Community Engagement

The event also highlighted the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives led by the “Women in Security” and “Young Professionals” Committees. In June, the ASIS International New Delhi Chapter organized a workshop featuring psychologist Prakriti Pandia, which promoted open discussions fostering personal reflection and communal support.

In addition to this, the chapter conducted a self-defense training session for 30 girls in Lajpat Nagar. They have plans to extend this empowerment program to at least 300 more participants in the future.

Member Certification Efforts

Mr. Abhay Ranjan received recognition for his commitment to member certification through his leadership of a boot camp for CPP, PSP, and PCI certifications. His efforts were appreciated by attendees, further solidifying ASIS International’s role in promoting goodwill and professional development among security professionals worldwide.

The Quarter 3 ASIS Chapter meet not only underscored the importance of technological integration and resilience in security practices but also highlighted community involvement and professional growth as crucial elements in the evolving landscape of corporate security.
