With a budget allocation of ₹212 crore, the Safe City project aims to streamline law and order in Noida
The Noida Authority has unveiled ambitious plans to enhance security measures across the city by implementing an extensive electronic surveillance system. Under the proposed “Safe City” project, officials aim to install a minimum of 2,500 CCTV cameras strategically placed throughout Noida. This initiative, slated to be supervised by a dedicated control room set up in Sector 94, is geared towards bolstering law enforcement efforts and ensuring the safety of residents.
Lokesh M, the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority, expressed, “We have identified at least 562 sites where the CCTV cameras will be installed to cover every nook and corner of Noida under e-surveillance.” Emphasizing the project’s primary objective of citizen safety, Lokesh M reiterated the authority’s commitment to installing a substantial number of cameras across the city.
With a budget allocation of ₹212 crore, the Safe City project aims to streamline law and order in Noida. “The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT, Delhi) and the traffic cell of Noida have also scrutinized the ₹212 crore budget,” revealed a Noida Authority official, highlighting the comprehensive planning behind the initiative.
Anticipating the commencement of work within the next two months, officials estimate that the project will be operational within 12 months. Once completed, the surveillance system will be handed over to the Noida Police for effective crime monitoring and control.
Previously, the Noida Authority, in collaboration with the traffic police, introduced the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in January 2022. This system, comprising 1,065 cameras installed at 84 traffic intersections, aimed to optimize traffic management and enforce regulations efficiently.
Building upon the success of the ITMS, authorities plan to integrate the Safe City cameras into the existing infrastructure, further enhancing surveillance capabilities. “The ITMS improved traffic management, and now under the Safe City initiative, the authority will focus on enhancing law and order,” remarked officials of the Noida Authority.
By leveraging camera footage, authorities anticipate expedited crime resolution and prevention, thereby contributing to a safer and more secure environment for residents across Noida.
