All government senior secondary schools having more than 500 students will have guards
Punjab’s Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, made an announcement regarding the appointment of 1,378 security guards for senior secondary government schools. This initiative aims to ensure the safety of schools with over 500 students by stationing security personnel at entry and exit points. These guards will be responsible for supervising student safety and preventing unauthorised departures during study hours, all while maintaining visitor records, according to a report by PTI.
During a program held at a government school in Ludhiana, Bains also highlighted measures taken by the state government to modernise the education sector. These include the appointment of nearly 2,000 campus managers responsible for school building maintenance. Furthermore, the government has allocated Rs 250 crore for the construction of boundary walls around all government schools. Moreover , monthly funds ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 50,000 will be provided to schools based on their student population for the purpose of maintaining cleanliness. This marks the first time that funds have been earmarked for school cleanliness .Accompanied by School Education Secretary Kamal Kishor Yadav, the Minister emphasised that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is undertaking a dedicated effort to revolutionise the education sector within the state. This transformation involves equipping government schools with cutting-edge infrastructure.
He went on to mention that an extensive 1,018 kilometre boundary wall is planned to encircle all government schools, with an allocated budget of Rs. 250 crore. This initiative aims to enhance the security and safety of school premises significantly.
Furthermore, nearly 2,000 campus managers have been appointed, responsible for the ongoing maintenance of school buildings. These campus managers will be actively present in schools to promptly address any maintenance-related issues.
The Education Minister also highlighted an unprecedented move, wherein funds are being allocated to schools for maintaining cleanliness. These funds, ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 50,000 per month, are determined by the student population of each school. Principals will be entrusted with utilising these funds to ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of their respective schools.
The Minister stressed that the Punjab Government is earnestly working to overhaul both the education and healthcare sectors, with the goal of propelling the state toward robust growth. He envisions a future where Punjab stands as a leading state in these domains, providing its residents with top-tier education and healthcare services.
