Security Heightened In New York Following ISIS-K Threat Against India Vs Pakistan Cricket World Cup Match

Security measures have been intensified in New York after terror group ISIS-K issued a global threat against the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan. The game, scheduled for June 9, has been specifically targeted, prompting authorities to respond robustly.

According to CNN, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder confirmed that the event first faced an ISIS-K-related threat in April. This was followed by more direct threats concerning the India versus Pakistan match. Ryder mentioned that the threats also included references to a viral video online, urging a “lone wolf to act out.”

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman emphasized the seriousness with which they are treating every threat. He noted the extensive coordination of security efforts with federal partners, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, among other law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Blakeman stated, “There will be teams from all over the world coming in. There will be fans from all over the world coming to Nassau County… we have been meeting for well over six months on a regular basis to talk about security concerns, which could potentially arise at any kind of event of this magnitude.”

Commissioner Ryder highlighted the unprecedented scale of the security operation for this event. He assured, “I can guarantee you this — the safest place to be in Nassau County on June 9th will be inside that stadium.”

ISIS-K, which claimed responsibility for the attack in Moscow’s Crocus City Hall in March, killing at least 143 people, has been active since emerging in eastern Afghanistan in late 2014. The group remains one of the most active ISIS affiliates globally.
