Surana and Surana International Attorneys (SSIA), in collaboration with the Tirunelveli District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TDCCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), recently organized a knowledge session focusing on the critical topics of cybersecurity, trademarks, and copyrights.
The session, aimed at supporting businesses, particularly family-run and small enterprises, addressed the legal and technical challenges posed by cyber threats and the importance of intellectual property (IP) protection in today’s digital economy.
Vinod Surana, Managing Partner of SSIA, highlighted how his firm helps family businesses avoid lengthy court battles by offering conflict resolution services. With affiliates in 70 countries, SSIA handles both national and international legal assignments. He stressed the increasing importance of understanding legal safeguards in the digital era.
Surya Senthil, a partner at SSIA, focused on the legal dimensions of cybersecurity and white-collar crimes, emphasizing the need for businesses to implement preventive measures. He provided practical guidance on how to safeguard sensitive data and avoid becoming targets of cybercriminals.
Balaji, Deputy Head of IP Practice at SSIA, discussed the significance of trademarks and copyrights, especially for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and traditional family businesses. He advised companies on how to protect their brand, market identity, and goodwill from competitors, ensuring their intellectual property is secure.
K.V. Ramesh of Skills DA covered the technical aspects of cybersecurity, touching on essential topics such as data privacy, data protection, and digital forensics. He highlighted the growing threat landscape and stressed the importance of staying ahead of potential cyberattacks.
Assistant Dean of Vinayaka Mission’s Law School, Fowmina, added an academic perspective by sharing insights on how cybersecurity is becoming an integral part of modern law education. She highlighted the importance of integrating these topics into law syllabi to prepare future legal professionals for the challenges posed by digital threats.
Gunasingh Chelladurai, a prominent industrialist and president of TDCCI, acknowledged the importance of cybersecurity for businesses in the digital age. He expressed gratitude to Surana & Surana for organizing the informative session, which provided practical guidelines for protecting businesses from cyberattacks and safeguarding brand value.
Celestine Villavarayar, Chairman of CII Thoothukudi, underscored the necessity of businesses considering both the legal aspects—such as trademarks and copyrights—as well as the techno-commercial aspects to protect their interests.
The session concluded with a call for businesses to take proactive steps in securing their digital and intellectual assets to thrive in an increasingly connected world.
