The refunds were processed through Lok Adalat programs organised by the Telangana Legal Services Authority between February 20 and June 6
In a significant move to support victims of cyber fraud, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), in collaboration with local police units, has successfully refunded ₹31.29 crore of lost money to affected individuals. This initiative represents a notable effort to provide timely financial relief and enhance the cyber security framework in Telangana.
The refunds were processed through Lok Adalat programs organised by the Telangana Legal Services Authority between February 20 and June 6. Lok Adalats, or people’s courts, are known for their efficiency in resolving disputes and have proven to be an effective avenue for the redressal of grievances in this context.
To ensure an efficient refund process, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was developed and disseminated in February to all District Legal Services Authorities, as well as to the Superintendent of Police and the Police Commissioners. The SOP outlined a clear and structured process for handling refund claims, ensuring that the procedure was standardized across different districts and police units. This streamlined approach helped in managing the large volume of petitions and facilitated quicker resolutions.
A total of 5,142 petitions for refunds were filed in court, leading to the issuance of refund orders totaling ₹31.29 crore. This coordinated effort marks a new benchmark for legal and cyber security responses in the state, aiming to help victims recover from financial losses incurred due to cyber fraud. The success of this initiative highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation and the need for a robust legal framework to combat cyber crimes.
Victims of cyber fraud often face significant challenges in recovering their lost money, and this initiative by the TGCSB and Telangana Legal Services Authority has provided much-needed relief to thousands of individuals. The proactive steps taken by the authorities demonstrate a commitment to addressing the growing threat of cyber fraud and protecting the financial well-being of citizens.
Overall, the refund initiative by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, supported by local police and legal authorities, sets a commendable precedent for other states to follow. By providing timely financial relief to victims and establishing a clear process for handling such cases, Telangana is paving the way for a more secure and responsive cyber environment.
