Equipped with cutting-edge firefighting tools, the vehicles come with water tanks, high-powered pumps, and a fluorine-free chemical foam system
In a bid to make Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj both safe and environmentally sustainable, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to deploy advanced all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) for fire safety. These state-of-the-art vehicles, capable of navigating sand, swamps, and shallow water, are designed to provide swift and effective responses to fire emergencies, even in the most challenging terrains.
Four such vehicles, imported from Germany, have already arrived in Prayagraj, with specialised training being provided to firefighters for their operation. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to flag off these vehicles, along with other advanced equipment, on November 25. Powered by electric batteries, these ATVs align with the Chief Minister’s vision of a secure and environmentally friendly Mahakumbh.
Advanced Fire Safety Features
Equipped with cutting-edge firefighting tools, the vehicles come with water tanks, high-powered pumps, and a fluorine-free chemical foam system. Pramod Sharma, Chief Fire Officer of Prayagraj and Nodal Officer for Mahakumbh, explained the vehicles’ capabilities:
“These vehicles will ensure that fire safety services can be effectively managed even in crowded areas once the Mahakumbh fair begins. Their rapid response time is critical in controlling fire incidents during their early stages,” he said.
The foam system, which combines 8 litres of water and 1 litre of fluorine-free chemical foam, can spray up to 9 litres per discharge. The foam is highly effective in extinguishing fires, particularly flammable liquid fires, while preventing re-ignition. It also features a 45-foot discharge range and a 75-foot hose, enabling coverage of fire zones within a 100-foot radius.
“The vehicles’ design ensures safety for firefighters by allowing them to maintain a safe distance from the fire while combating it effectively,” Sharma added.
Addressing Unique Challenges
The decision to deploy ATVs stems from the challenges posed by the massive crowds expected during Mahakumbh. Traditional fire engines often face delays in navigating crowded and uneven terrains. These compact, versatile vehicles aim to bridge this gap, ensuring timely intervention in emergencies.
“With heavy crowds expected, these vehicles will be able to reach emergency situations within seconds. Their speed and agility will be crucial in effectively managing fire incidents,” Sharma said.
The vehicles are designed to operate seamlessly on varied terrains, including sand, mud, and shallow water. In case they get stuck in the sand, a boost mode activates all four wheels for enhanced mobility. Each vehicle can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h and operates for up to 8 hours on a full charge, with a recharge time of just 4 hours.
Sustainable Initiative
Beyond their operational efficiency, the vehicles are eco-friendly. The fluorine-free foam used is biodegradable and Green Shield certified, ensuring minimal environmental impact while maintaining high fire-extinguishing efficacy.
The Uttar Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive, have implemented comprehensive measures to make Mahakumbh 2025 a zero-fire incident event. The introduction of these all-terrain vehicles is a cornerstone of these efforts, reflecting a commitment to safety and sustainability.
Preparations In Full Swing
The Mahakumbh, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, demands exceptional planning to ensure the safety of millions of attendees. The deployment of advanced firefighting technologies is expected to significantly enhance the state’s preparedness, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for visitors.
As the countdown to Mahakumbh 2025 begins, these innovative measures mark a significant step forward in combining technological advancements with traditional event management, setting a benchmark for safety and sustainability in large-scale gatherings.
