Dulat also said that there is nothing like foolproof intelligence or foolproof security, otherwise, we wouldn’t have lost our two prime ministers who were assassinated
Intelligence is information gathered within or outside India that involves threats to our nation, its people, property or interests; development, proliferation or use of weapons of mass destruction and any other matter bearing on India’s external or internal security.
Intelligence can provide insights not available elsewhere that warn of potential threats and opportunities, assess probable outcomes of proposed policy options, provide leadership profiles on foreign officials and inform official travellers of counterintelligence and security threats.
Former Special Director of IB and Chief of the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW), AS Dulat, said that what happened on 7 October in Israel, shows that it is one of the biggest intelligence failures. Mossad which is believed to be one of the finest intelligence agencies in the world – failed to crack down on Hamas before the attack.
However, Dulat also said that there is nothing like foolproof intelligence or foolproof security. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have lost our two prime ministers who were assassinated.
By counting his experience, he said that he had the privilege to work with PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and it was great learning he was one of the finest prime ministers of that time.
“Right now, we have a great leader as prime minister and he understands intelligence. When we fail in intelligence, we should accept it. We have in the intelligence area otherwise Pulwama or Mumbai terrorist attack in 2008 would not have happened. There will be failures as well in future,” Dulat highlighted.
What is happening in Israel, will force more Palestinians to join Hamas on the other side, Netanyahu also reached the end of his prime ministership and this war is also going to affect Biden’s re-election as US president in 2024.
In the case of Kashmir, the militancy has come down after the abrogation of Article 370 but terrorism is still there. “Even if you end terrorism in one area, Pakistan has the capability to do terror activity in other geographies. Therefore, with counter-terrorism operations, we should engage in talks with Islamabad on this issue,” he added.
