5th All India Conference Of GRP Chiefs Highlights Railway Security Challenges Solutions

The conference explored streamlining processes for registering passenger complaints and rectifying discrepancies between complaints logged on the Rail Madad portal and formal cases filed

The 5th All India Conference of Government Railway Police (GRP) Chiefs was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways and the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The event brought together senior officials and security leaders to address critical issues, including passenger safety, crime management, and the need for improved manpower and infrastructure for railway security.

Satish Kumar, Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, inaugurated the conference with a keynote address, underscoring the importance of collaboration between state police forces (GRP) and the RPF. Highlighting successful initiatives like Operation Nanhe Farishte, Operation AAHT, and Meri Saheli, Kumar emphasised their role in protecting vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, within the railway system.

Director General of RPF, Manoj Yadava, welcomed participants by stressing the necessity of modernising security infrastructure to tackle emerging threats, including the rising number of passenger-related crimes. He advocated for an integrated approach to security reforms.

Key Discussions & Initiatives

The conference explored streamlining processes for registering passenger complaints and rectifying discrepancies between complaints logged on the Rail Madad portal and formal cases filed. Discussions also centred on implementing new criminal laws, with an emphasis on improving Zero FIR and e-FIR systems to facilitate effective crime reporting, evidence management, and inter-state investigations.

Manpower and infrastructure were significant areas of deliberation. Officials proposed uniform benchmarks to evaluate GRP needs, accounting for India’s diverse geography and the operational complexities of its railway network. A committee was established to set these benchmarks within a defined timeframe.

Technological Integration & Safety Measures

The conference also prioritised adopting advanced technologies to bolster railway security. This includes improving coordination among stakeholders and fostering innovative solutions for crime prevention and response.

In his closing remarks, Yadava lauded the collective efforts of participants, stating:
“This conference has reaffirmed our collective resolve to strengthen railway security. By addressing manpower challenges, modernising systems, and improving crime response mechanisms, we are taking decisive steps toward safer travel for millions of passengers. The partnership between state GRPs and Indian Railways remains pivotal in achieving this goal.”

Commitment To Action

The event concluded with actionable outcomes, reaffirming the collective commitment to enhancing passenger safety across India’s extensive railway network. Participants pledged to focus on leveraging technology, improving inter-agency coordination, and addressing infrastructure gaps to ensure a safer and more efficient railway system for the country.
