Cybersecurity and cloud computing firm Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM) has announced the launch of App & API Protector Hybrid, an extension of its Web Application and API Protection (WAAP) platform. The new offering is designed to provide consistent and comprehensive security for applications and APIs deployed across multi-cloud setups, on-premises infrastructure, and content delivery network (CDN)-agnostic environments.

With businesses increasingly operating in diverse and dispersed technology environments, security teams are often challenged with maintaining protection across multiple platforms while also managing operational efficiency and costs. Akamai’s latest solution aims to address this complexity by allowing organisations to streamline web application firewall (WAF) capabilities under a single framework.

The App & API Protector Hybrid enables users to standardise WAF protections across varied deployment environments, offering a unified approach to security policy enforcement. By consolidating management tasks, it also helps reduce operational overheads. For DevOps teams, the hybrid solution is intended to support faster and more secure deployment of services in both cloud and on-premises environments.

The platform is built to defend against a wide range of cyber threats targeting applications, APIs, microservices and workloads, while maintaining the flexibility and resilience required by today’s enterprise architectures.

“Akamai’s App & API Protector Hybrid extends Akamai’s leading WAAP security with the ability to defend distributed applications, APIs and microservices,” said Rupesh Chokshi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Application Security, Akamai. “As customer ecosystems are increasingly spread across on-premises, multi-cloud, and on-and-off-CDN environments, this solution simplifies security for modern organisations.”

The launch reflects Akamai’s ongoing focus on securing data and digital services consistently, regardless of where they are hosted. As more organisations adopt hybrid and multi-cloud strategies, security products like App & API Protector Hybrid are expected to play a key role in ensuring seamless protection without disrupting performance or agility.

The announcement also comes amid growing interest in unified security solutions that can adapt to varied deployment models and scale with enterprise needs. By offering a flexible yet consistent security posture, Akamai aims to support companies navigating the increasingly fragmented IT landscape.
