The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has imposed a Rs 5 lakh fine on IndiGo for breaching aviation security protocols. The penalty pertains to violations of Rule 51 under the Aircraft (Security) Rules, 2023, along with related Aviation Security (AVSEC) directives.
In a regulatory filing, IndiGo confirmed receiving the BCAS order, dated 27 November, and stated that it is reviewing the matter. “The airline is in the process of filing an appeal before the appropriate appellate authority,” the statement said.
Details about the specific security breaches were not disclosed, and the filing emphasised that the penalty will not have any material impact on the airline’s financials, operations, or other activities.
AVSEC refers to aviation security protocols designed to ensure the safety of passengers, aircraft, and airport facilities. Rule 51 of the Aircraft (Security) Rules, 2023 outlines mandatory measures airlines must adhere to in order to maintain secure operations.
This development underscores the importance of stringent compliance with aviation security regulations, a critical aspect of ensuring safe air travel. IndiGo, one of India’s leading airlines, has assured that it is addressing the issue in accordance with regulatory procedures.
