Kerala Kalamassery Blast
Following the threat, authorities at KIA immediately strengthened security protocols, increasing surveillance and implementing precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety

Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) received a bomb threat via email on 8 February, prompting heightened security measures as the Aero India 2025 event commenced in the city. The threat, which raised alarms across multiple airports, coincided with the arrival of international delegates, defence companies, and aviation experts attending the air show.

Email Threat Warns Of Drone Attack

According to a report, an email sent from mahanteshs6699@proton.me warned of a potential drone strike targeting incoming flights at airports in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kerala. The sender demanded a response to a letter addressed to Basavaraj Bommai, former Karnataka Chief Minister and current Member of Parliament. The email reportedly stated:

“There will be a drone attack on landing flights in Bangalore, Chennai, or Kerala airport if I do not receive a response to my letter from Basavaraj Bommai.”

Following the threat, authorities at KIA immediately strengthened security protocols, increasing surveillance and implementing precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety.

Investigation Underway To Trace Source

The airport police have registered an FIR under sections 125 (endangering the safety of others), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 353 (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A detailed investigation is currently underway to trace the sender and determine the credibility of the threat. Law enforcement agencies are also coordinating with cybercrime specialists to track the origin of the email and assess any potential risks.

Tightened Security At Aero India 2025

Given the timing of the bomb threat, authorities have reinforced security measures at Yelahanka Air Force Station, where Aero India 2025 is being held. The event, known for showcasing cutting-edge aerospace and defence technologies, has attracted international delegates and major players in the aviation industry.

To prevent disruptions, security personnel have been deployed across key entry points, and baggage screening has been intensified. Drone surveillance has been introduced to monitor the area, ensuring no unauthorised aerial activity occurs. Additional security checkpoints have been set up to inspect vehicles and visitors entering the venue.

Despite these concerns, the air show remains a crucial platform for global aerospace collaborations and the promotion of India’s defence industry. Leading defence organisations, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), are showcasing advanced technologies such as the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (Tejas) and the Advanced Light Helicopter (Dhruv).

Authorities remain on high alert, ensuring that the event proceeds without disruptions while maintaining strict security protocols to safeguard both participants and attendees.
