The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has taken a significant step to boost the operational efficiency of its aviation security wing by establishing an Internal Quality Control Unit (IQCU). This unit is tasked with standardising and refining the security protocols at 68 civil airports across India, ensuring seamless counter-terrorist measures and improved safety for millions of domestic and international passengers.

The initiative aligns with the National Civil Aviation Security Quality Control Programme (NCASQCP) 2024 and the Aircraft (Security) Rules 2023, issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), which operates under the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The IQCU is expected to introduce uniformity in security operations, recommend global technological advancements, and conduct regular internal audits to identify potential areas for improvement.

A CISF spokesperson highlighted the significance of the new unit, stating it would play a crucial role in upgrading India’s airport security standards to world-class levels. This centralised system will also extend its oversight to airports covered under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAAN), ensuring comprehensive coverage of security protocols nationwide.

Strengthening Security Across All Airports

The IQCU will function as part of the Aviation Security Control Center (ASCC) based in New Delhi, which acts as a central hub for coordinating airport security measures. The unit, led by a senior CISF officer and supported by certified aviation security instructors, will conduct rigorous assessments of existing procedures, suggest improvements, and integrate cutting-edge technologies into operations.

This initiative comes as part of the CISF’s broader commitment to safeguarding India’s civil aviation infrastructure. With a workforce of approximately 1.8 lakh personnel, the force has deployed nearly 50,000 officers to ensure the security of the 68 airports under its purview. The establishment of the IQCU reaffirms CISF’s dedication to maintaining high security standards and addressing evolving threats in the aviation sector.
