The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has established an Internal Quality Control Unit (IQCU) to enhance the operational efficiency of its aviation security wing, responsible for safeguarding 68 civil airports in India. This initiative is aimed at ensuring world-class security protocols for millions of domestic and international passengers who use these airports daily.
According to a CISF spokesperson, the IQCU is designed to align with the National Civil Aviation Security Quality Control Programme (NCASQCP) of 2024, issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and the Aircraft (Security) Rules of 2023. BCAS, operating under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, formulates security policies for the Indian civil aviation sector.
The IQCU will focus on standardising aviation security procedures, recommending advanced global technologies, conducting internal audits of CISF security units, and identifying areas for improvement. The unit’s role extends to airports under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAAN), ensuring comprehensive security coverage.

A senior CISF officer will lead the unit, supported by a team of certified aviation security instructors.
“The latest system will also cover the airports that come under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAAN),” the spokesperson noted, highlighting the broad reach of the initiative.
The CISF, which operates under the Union Home Ministry, has a workforce of approximately 1.80 lakh personnel, of which about 50,000 are deployed across 68 airports. This move is expected to strengthen security measures and address the dynamic challenges of civil aviation security in India.
The establishment of the IQCU underscores CISF’s commitment to maintaining global standards in aviation security while addressing emerging threats effectively.
