CSIR-SERC Develops Indigenous Bullet-Resistant Booth For Security Forces

Developed by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai, the booth was recently showcased at Aero India

Security personnel stationed at India’s borders and critical institutions now have an added layer of protection with the introduction of a fully indigenous bullet-resistant security booth. Developed by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai, the booth was recently showcased at Aero India.

Designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and sustained gunfire, the ‘High-Velocity Multi-Hit Resistant Movable Protective Booth’ is built to enhance the safety of personnel from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and other security agencies.

Compact, Durable & Highly Protective

The booth measures 4 ft x 4 ft x 8 ft and weighs 1,650 kg. It is bullet-resistant, capable of withstanding multiple hits, and provides reliable protection for security personnel in high-risk environments.

Dr Amar Prakash, Senior Principal Scientist and Head of the Advanced Protective Structures and Mechanics Laboratory at CSIR-SERC, highlighted the booth’s mobility and ease of deployment.

“The booth is fixed with movable castor wheels and can be installed or dismantled within an hour,” he said.

Offering ample space for security personnel, the booth provides effective protection against short projectiles of 7.62-mm calibre, commonly used in rifles and other firearms. The structure has been designed to ensure maximum safety without compromising on operational efficiency.

Priced at approximately Rs 2 lakh (USD 2,400), the booth is a cost-effective solution for enhancing security infrastructure at sensitive locations.

By developing an indigenous, field-ready security booth, CSIR-SERC has provided a practical and durable solution that could be widely adopted by security forces across India.
