Colonel Inderjeet Singh, a leading figure in India’s cybersecurity and blockchain innovation, tragically passed away on September 27, 2024. He collapsed during a lecture and could not be revived, leaving behind a profound legacy in the fields of cyber defense and emerging technologies. With over three decades of experience, Col. Singh’s career impacted both the defense and tech sectors, shaping national and global initiatives to fortify digital infrastructures.
As the Chief Cyber Officer at CyberSleuths, Col. Singh played a crucial role in helping organizations protect themselves from ever-evolving cyber threats. Over 34 years, he built a reputation as a key player in setting up Cyber Defense Centres and advancing threat intelligence, operational technology (OT) security, and digital forensics. His role as a virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO) helped companies design and maintain stronger defenses against cyberattacks.
In his capacity as Director General of the Cyber Security Association of India, Col. Singh was instrumental in formulating policies that bolstered India’s cybersecurity resilience. His efforts ensured that individuals and organizations alike were better equipped to deal with the challenges of an increasingly digital world. Col. Singh was also involved in the Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF), participating in workshops to raise awareness and improve cybersecurity education.
Beyond cybersecurity, Col. Singh was a visionary in blockchain technology and Web 3.0. As a co-founder of the India Blockchain Forum (IBF), he advocated for secure blockchain frameworks and helped startups navigate the complexities of decentralized systems. His passion for mentorship extended to the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science. As a co-founder of the Society for Data Science (S4DS), Col. Singh worked to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and startups. His guidance helped numerous startups succeed, pushing the boundaries of AI and GenAI technologies.
On the global stage, Col. Singh represented India at the United Nations Office in Geneva, addressing critical cybersecurity issues. His work helped advance international cooperation in combating cybercrime, ensuring that his vision for secure digital infrastructures reached far beyond India.
Before his foray into the tech world, Col. Singh had a distinguished career in the Indian Army. An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and Symbiosis Institute of Management, Pune, he held key positions in cybersecurity, risk management, and cyber warfare. He also participated in the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. After his military service, he transitioned into the corporate sector, taking on the role of CIO for an eCommerce company, demonstrating his versatility as a leader across different domains.
Col. Singh’s dedication to start-up incubation and strategic technology consulting further cemented his influence in India’s tech ecosystem. His forward-thinking approach to innovation shaped the next generation of tech entrepreneurs and ensured that his impact on cybersecurity would be felt for years to come.
Throughout his career, Col. Singh received numerous awards and accolades. He was a Council Member of the Computer Engineering Technologists (CET), a fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), and a member of organizations like ISACA and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). His contributions to information security, cyber warfare, and risk management were widely acknowledged.
Colonel Inderjeet Singh leaves behind a legacy of leadership and resilience in cybersecurity, blockchain technology, and AI. His passing is a great loss to the tech and defense communities, but his contributions will continue to inspire future leaders in these fields for years to come. His work fortified India’s cyber defenses and influenced global cybersecurity policies, ensuring his lasting impact on the digital landscape.
