In preparation for Diwali and other upcoming festivals, the Delhi Police has strengthened security across the city’s major markets, which are seeing a surge of shoppers. The heightened vigilance follows a recent blast on October 20 at a CRPF school in Prashant Vihar, Rohini. While the blast caused some property damage to nearby shop signs and vehicle windows, no injuries were reported.
Popular shopping hubs such as Chandni Chowk, Azadpur, and Ghazipur are receiving special attention as they draw large crowds from Delhi and neighbouring states. According to officials, the increased security presence aims to ensure the safety of shoppers and maintain order amid the festive rush. “Elaborate security arrangements have been made, especially in markets, malls, vital installations, and crowded places,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Apoorva Gupta. “Police visibility has been enhanced through intensified patrolling and deployments of extra pickets. All staff are on high alert to prevent any untoward incident.”
Enhanced Surveillance & Restricted Movement In Busy Areas

Police are closely monitoring the movements in border areas to ensure no security lapses. Southeast DCP Ravi Kumar Singh stated, “We are keeping a strict vigil from ‘maachan’ (watchtowers) and ‘morcha’ (barricades), and drones have been deployed to monitor the markets. No one will be allowed to breach law and order.”
Tight Security At Transport Hubs
Police presence has also been increased at railway and metro stations, with additional force deployment in place to deter any suspicious activity. Patrolling teams, which include the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), have been directed to report any unusual activity to senior officers immediately.
The enhanced security measures across Delhi aim to create a safe shopping environment as residents gear up for Diwali and other festivals.
