The DPDP Act, enacted in 2023, empowers Indian citizens with greater control over how their personal data is used
The Data Security Council of India (DSCI), in collaboration with Privy by IDfy, has introduced PriView, a free tool designed to help businesses generate privacy notices. PriView aims to simplify the process for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by offering a quick and user-friendly way to create clear, privacy-compliant notices that meet India’s data protection requirements.
Drafting privacy notices can be a complex task for smaller organisations, as they often lack the legal resources to interpret regulations, format notices correctly, and include detailed purpose-specific data descriptions. Additionally, global privacy compliance tools are rarely tailored to India’s unique regulatory environment.
PriView addresses these challenges by providing an intuitive solution that requires minimal input. Businesses simply need to provide their name, industry, and the purpose of the notice, and the tool generates a customised privacy notice that complies with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act. This is especially useful given the Act’s granular consent requirements.
The DPDP Act, enacted in 2023, empowers Indian citizens with greater control over how their personal data is used. Organisations are now required to prioritise privacy governance and safeguard user data to maintain trust and reputation in a digital-first world.
Vinayak Godse, CEO of DSCI, highlighted the importance of such tools, stating: “After the enactment of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, India’s SMEs, startups, and non-digital native companies will now be navigating the nuances of data protection compliance. DSCI, as an industry body, found it to be imperative to make available tools and resources to assist organisations in this complex journey. This privacy notice generator will help achieve a dual objective: first, it will facilitate businesses’ privacy maturity and awareness, and, second, it can ensure that end consumers provide meaningful consent for digital products and services. I welcome this collaboration with Privy on developing this essential tool for the industry.”
Ashok Hariharan, CEO and Co-founder of IDfy, added: “The launch of PriView with DSCI marks a milestone in India’s Trust and Privacy journey. As the DPDP Act reshapes the landscape, PriView shall empower businesses and individuals to go beyond compliance and build lasting trust. At Privy, we’re proud to play a role in India’s leap into a new era of digital privacy and data protection.”
Privy, a flagship initiative by IDfy, is India’s first suite of data privacy solutions. The collaboration with DSCI reflects a commitment to supporting businesses across industries in meeting the demands of the DPDP Act. The tool’s ability to generate notices in multiple languages and align with sectoral regulations ensures organisations can meet both legal requirements and customer expectations.
By simplifying the creation of privacy notices and promoting meaningful user consent, PriView offers a practical solution for businesses to navigate the evolving data protection landscape while strengthening customer trust.
