Visitors accompanying passengers at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport will now need to carry a copy of the airline ticket as part of newly introduced security protocols, ARY News reported, citing reliable sources. These measures come in response to a recent terrorist attack targeting Chinese nationals near the airport, allegedly facilitated by insiders.
According to the revised rules, individuals seeing off or receiving travellers must present a copy of the airline ticket if requested by security personnel. Each passenger can be accompanied by up to four people. Those without a ticket copy will be denied entry to the airport premises.
For those picking up passengers, carrying a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) along with the ticket copy will be mandatory. The new protocols aim to tighten access control around the airport and are expected to be implemented shortly, as confirmed by sources from the airport authorities.
In a joint press conference, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon commended the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police for their prompt action in identifying the suspects and facilitators involved in the attack.
Lanjar disclosed that the proscribed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the incident. He detailed that Rs7.1 million was transferred to a bank account belonging to an individual named Saeed through a bank employee, Bilal. The funds were used to purchase a vehicle in Karachi that was deployed in the attack.
The vehicle, bought from a local showroom, was later suspected to have been moved to Balochistan or another location for loading explosives.
