Firefighting Robots, Mist Bikes & Boats Deployed In Prayagraj

Railway personnel will also assist pilgrims with using the app and navigating its features, ensuring a smooth experience at railway stations and other crucial locations

The stage is being set for the Maha Kumbh, one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings, to be held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26, 2025. Held every 12 years, this event is expected to attract millions of devotees who will gather at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, to participate in rituals and seek spiritual blessings.

Technological & Safety Measures

The administration has implemented several advanced measures to ensure the safety of attendees. Additional manpower, Quick Response Vehicles (QRVs), and state-of-the-art equipment such as all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), firefighting robots, and fire mist bikes have been deployed. Firefighting boats, designed to use river water to extinguish fires on platoon bridges and nearby establishments, are expected to be operational within a week.

Padmaja Chauhan, Additional Director General (ADG) of Fire Services, emphasised the importance of readiness and public awareness. “We have informed the officers to go to the tents, spread awareness and carry out mock drills,” she said, highlighting efforts to educate attendees on handling minor fire incidents.

To further enhance emergency preparedness, the district administration has established new fire stations and deployed 365 vehicles to handle potential fire emergencies effectively.

Innovative Ticketing System

In a significant step towards modernisation, the North Central Railway’s Prayagraj division has introduced a QR code-based ticketing system to simplify the process for pilgrims. Railway staff wearing green jackets with QR codes will be stationed at key locations. By scanning these codes, attendees can download the UTS mobile app to book unreserved tickets digitally. This initiative aims to minimise congestion at railway stations and provide a seamless travel experience for the millions expected to visit.

Railway personnel will also assist pilgrims with using the app and navigating its features, ensuring a smooth experience at railway stations and other crucial locations.

Key Rituals & Celebrations

The spiritual highlight of the Maha Kumbh will be the Shahi Snan, or royal baths, which hold profound religious significance. These rituals are scheduled for:

January 14: Makar Sankranti

January 29: Mauni Amavasya

February 3: Basant Panchami

Devotees believe that taking a dip in the Triveni Sangam during these auspicious days cleanses one of sins and grants spiritual liberation.

Grand Spiritual Gathering

With millions expected to converge for this monumental event, the Maha Kumbh is not just a religious festival but a showcase of cultural and spiritual unity. The blend of traditional rituals and modern technology reflects the organisers’ commitment to ensuring a safe and fulfilling experience for all attendees.

The administration’s meticulous planning, coupled with technological innovations, underscores the importance of balancing tradition with progress at one of India’s most revered gatherings.
