The AI-driven safety monitoring system uses real-time video analytics, edge computing, and deep learning algorithms to autonomously flag unsafe practices within industrial environments
In a move aimed at reinforcing workplace safety and operational efficiency, Hindustan Zinc Ltd, a Vedanta Group company, has introduced an advanced artificial intelligence (AI)-powered surveillance system across its operations. The system, named Detect AI, is designed to identify safety violations in real time while reducing the need for human monitoring.
According to the company, the deployment of Detect AI marks a significant step towards integrating intelligent automation with existing security infrastructure. By pairing the system with the company’s Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled surveillance setup, Hindustan Zinc is working to streamline safety compliance and improve overall operational performance.
The AI-driven safety monitoring system uses real-time video analytics, edge computing, and deep learning algorithms to autonomously flag unsafe practices within industrial environments. These include incidents such as the absence of personal protective equipment (PPE), unauthorised access to restricted areas, and violations of protocols for working at height.
The system doesn’t just observe—it acts. It categorises the severity of non-compliance using predictive analytics and triggers automated alerts through cloud-based inference engines. This allows for timely interventions while also generating comprehensive, data-backed insights for management to assess and address risks more effectively.
In a statement, Hindustan Zinc emphasised that the initiative supports its broader objectives of sustainability, responsible growth, and digital transformation.
“…we have embedded technological excellence and automation into our operations to power ahead on the path of sustainable and responsible growth. It is our vision to eliminate manual intervention and automate our processes with advanced technologies…,” said Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc.
The integration of AI into safety protocols reflects a growing trend across industries to replace manual oversight with intelligent systems that not only improve accuracy but also support proactive risk management. With this deployment, Hindustan Zinc aims to set a benchmark in industrial safety standards, while building on its vision for a tech-enabled future.
