The initiative reflects the administration’s dual focus on improving traffic management and bolstering security along key routes
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri announced plans to install additional CCTV cameras along the Kashmir highway to reduce road accidents and enhance security. The decision comes in response to a recent accident on the Tengapora bypass, prompting the administration to adopt a more proactive stance on road safety.
“These cameras are crucial not only for road safety but also from a security perspective,” Bidhuri said, adding that the administration will prioritise repairing and regularly monitoring any non-functional cameras to ensure their effectiveness.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a workshop organised by the Archaeological Department, Bidhuri emphasised the need for a comprehensive approach to road safety. “We need to think beyond law and order; it’s an emotional and sensitive issue. We must impart moral education to prevent such tragedies,” he stated.
Bidhuri also reassured the public that the increased monitoring would not result in undue harassment for law-abiding citizens. “Those with valid documents and licences won’t encounter any issues. The law applies equally to everyone,” he said, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to fairness and accountability.
The initiative reflects the administration’s dual focus on improving traffic management and bolstering security along key routes. Authorities aim to not only enhance surveillance but also foster a culture of responsibility and safety among commuters.
