To regulate the audit process, businesses will only be allowed to get their cyber security audits conducted by the Maharashtra Security Corporation
Maharashtra will soon introduce a dedicated Cyber Security Corporation to enhance digital security across the state, sources familiar with the development said.
The new entity will emerge from the existing Maharashtra Cyber Cell and will be headquartered in Navi Mumbai.
According to sources, one of the key mandates of the Cyber Security Corporation will be to ensure that all companies operating in Maharashtra undergo a mandatory cyber security audit once a year. Companies failing to comply with this requirement will face a penalty of ₹25,000 per day.
To regulate the audit process, businesses will only be allowed to get their cyber security audits conducted by the Maharashtra Security Corporation or an agency empanelled by it.
Addressing Cyber Threats Through Proactive Audits
The move comes in response to the rising number of cyberattacks targeting businesses, leading to data breaches and financial losses. Sources explained that the Cyber Security Corporation will play a proactive role in safeguarding digital assets by installing security software during audits to prevent cyberattacks.
“Many companies fall victim to cyberattacks, resulting in data theft. Through these audits, we aim to strengthen their security infrastructure and prevent such incidents,” a source said.
The establishment of the Cyber Security Corporation is seen as a crucial step in fortifying Maharashtra’s digital ecosystem, ensuring that businesses operate in a secure cyber environment. The initiative is expected to bring greater accountability and resilience against the growing threat of cybercrime.
