Mumbai High-rise Fire Highlights Growing Concerns

Officials confirmed that the fire caused damage to electrical wiring, an air-conditioning unit, utensils, clothing and electronic devices

A fire broke out on Sunday afternoon in a 22-storey residential tower in Goregaon East, prompting a swift and comprehensive response from the city’s fire services.

According to municipal officials, the blaze began in a flat on the 11th floor of the Vaishnav Height building on Rani Sati Marg, opposite Balaji Hospital, shortly after 3.30pm. The flames quickly spread to an adjacent room on the 12th floor, engulfing approximately 600 sq ft of space.

Despite the severity of the fire, no injuries were reported. Authorities said the flat, which was locked at the time, may have contributed to the absence of casualties, as other residents had already evacuated safely.

Mumbai Fire Brigade crews responded rapidly, deploying seven fire engines, a turntable ladder, a high-pressure jet, multiple water tankers, a breathing apparatus vehicle and a quick response unit. Their efforts brought the blaze under control by around 6pm.

Officials confirmed that the fire caused damage to electrical wiring, an air-conditioning unit, utensils, clothing and electronic devices. Rising smoke disrupted access to the upper floors of the building. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
