Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel convened on December 11 to discuss bilateral defence cooperation and regional security concerns. General Sigdel’s four-day visit to India, from December 11 to 14, aims to deepen military collaboration and explore new opportunities for partnership.
During their meeting, General Dwivedi announced India’s transfer of a target practice drone and medical equipment for military field hospitals to Nepal, symbolising the strengthening of defence ties. General Sigdel was briefed on India’s security perspectives and areas of mutual interest, with the Army Design Bureau presenting insights into India’s defence innovations.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) highlighted the value of these discussions, noting that they underscored India’s current and future security strategies and identified potential areas for joint efforts.
General Sigdel engaged with senior Indian defence and foreign policy officials, including National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The focus of these high-level meetings was to address shared defence and security concerns, reinforcing bilateral ties, according to the MoD.

Earlier in the day, General Sigdel paid homage at the National War Memorial in New Delhi and received a formal Guard of Honour. His visit will culminate with a ceremonial highlight—being conferred with the Honorary Rank of General of the Indian Army by President Droupadi Murmu.
The MoD has noted that this visit is a significant step in enhancing military collaboration between the two nations, fostering stronger ties rooted in mutual respect and shared goals.
