A 26-year-old passenger was detained at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Tuesday after allegedly making a bomb threat during a security check, causing a significant delay to a Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight.
The individual, who had arrived from Imphal and was connecting to Mumbai, reportedly made the alarming comment during a routine pre-boarding security screening. Airport authorities responded promptly, detaining the passenger and relocating the aircraft to an isolation bay for a comprehensive security inspection.
Flight 6E 5227, scheduled to depart at 1:30 PM, had already boarded 179 of its 186 passengers when the incident occurred. All passengers were subsequently deplaned, and the aircraft underwent thorough checks before being cleared for departure.
IndiGo Airlines confirmed the incident, stating: “Flight 6E 5227 from Kolkata to Mumbai received a bomb threat before departure. Following safety protocols, the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay and checked thoroughly.”
This event comes amid heightened security measures at Indian airports due to recent military tensions between India and Pakistan. Authorities have urged travelers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior.
