While private school buses and vans already have female assistants on board, the buses ferrying PMC school students have so far lacked such security personnel
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to deploy female security guards on PMPML buses used for transporting students of municipal schools. The move comes in response to an incident of misconduct reported at the Swargate ST stand and aims to enhance student safety.
While private school buses and vans already have female assistants on board, the buses ferrying PMC school students have so far lacked such security personnel. Around 200 to 300 PMPML buses are used daily to transport students, highlighting the need for additional safety measures.
Confirming the decision, PMC Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP said:
“Discussions have been held with the education department regarding the appointment of female security guards. The safety of students attending PMC schools is a key priority for the civic body.”
The deployment of female security personnel is expected to provide a safer environment for students and offer greater reassurance to parents. The education department and PMC will oversee the implementation of the initiative to ensure effective monitoring and security on student transport services.
