India, the US, Australia, and Japan have announced the continuation of the ‘Quad Cyber Challenge’ to strengthen cyber ecosystems, promote public resources, and raise awareness about cybersecurity. The theme for this year’s initiative is focused on promoting cybersecurity education and building a strong cyber workforce, according to a joint statement by the Quad nations.

Eminent cybersecurity experts will lead workshops for students and faculty members, not only encouraging them to adopt better cyber hygiene practices but also inspiring them to consider careers in cybersecurity, the statement added.

On October 10, the United States hosted a key event for the ‘Quad Cyber Challenge’ at the White House, with participation from officials representing Australia, India, and Japan. This event is part of an ongoing effort that began in February 2023, when the US and its Quad partners launched the challenge to encourage responsible cyber habits across their nations, regions, and beyond.

In India, the outreach will be marked by the National Cyber Security Coordinator’s address to students, emphasising the significance of cybersecurity as part of the ‘Cyber Swachhta Abhiyaan,’ a national campaign promoting cyber hygiene. This initiative is part of the country’s engagement during Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Anne Neuberger, the US Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technology, along with Cindy Marten, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education, underscored the importance of developing young talent in the cybersecurity sector. They highlighted educational pathways that support careers in both federal service and the private sector. Students and educators across the country attended the event, where prominent cybersecurity professionals shared their career stories, providing a glimpse into the future of the US cyber workforce.

The event also celebrated the winners of the Presidential Cyber Educator Award, and featured students from the CyberPatriot program, who represent the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

Japan’s National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC) also took part in the initiative. They featured three leading Japanese cybersecurity professionals who delivered special video messages discussing the challenges of the field and encouraging students to pursue careers in cybersecurity.

Later this month, Australia will continue the challenge with an event hosted by Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC at Government House in Canberra. Senior female high school students from the region will participate alongside representatives from the Quad nations, Dr. Andrew Charlton MP (Special Envoy for Cyber Security and Digital Resilience), and Lieutenant General Michelle McGuinness CSC, the country’s National Cyber Security Coordinator.

The event aims to educate students about the benefits and opportunities of pursuing a career in cybersecurity, demonstrating how stronger cyber skills can help individuals protect themselves and others from rising cyber risks.

The Quad Cyber Challenge is part of a broader effort by these four nations to create a secure and resilient cyberspace by fostering talent, spreading awareness, and building the workforce needed to meet emerging cyber threats.
