RTC Southern Nevada Implements ZeroEyes’ AI Gun Detection For Enhanced Transit Safety

ZeroEyes’ software integrates with current digital security cameras to detect firearms

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada has decided to implement ZeroEyes’ AI-based gun detection video analytics across its network. This marks the first instance of a transit agency in the United States adopting such technology to safeguard against gun-related violence.

RTC, established in 1965, manages a comprehensive range of public transportation services and infrastructure projects in the Las Vegas area. Its transit system, which includes 39 routes and over 400 vehicles, serves more than 50 million passengers annually. The decision to integrate ZeroEyes’ technology aligns with RTC’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety for its riders and employees.

United Safety & Survivability Group, ZeroEyes’ exclusive transit reseller, facilitated this one-year deployment. The implementation involves incorporating ZeroEyes’ gun detection and situational awareness software into RTC’s existing camera system.

“RTC prides itself on its ability to identify transportation challenges and implement solutions,” said MJ Maynard, CEO of the RTC. “Tens of thousands of people depend on our transit system every day, and we continually look for ways to improve their safety and security.”

ZeroEyes’ software integrates with current digital security cameras to detect firearms. When a gun is identified, the system sends images to the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC), the only U.S.-based operations center of its kind. Staffed around the clock by military and law enforcement veterans, the ZOC assesses the threat. If confirmed, alerts containing detailed information — such as visual description, gun type, and location — are dispatched to local law enforcement and RTC staff within seconds.

“The safety of operators and passengers is central to our mission at United Safety,” said Joseph Mirabile, CEO of United Safety. “We are thrilled that RTC, a longstanding partner benefiting from our diverse safety products, acknowledges the significant impact ZeroEyes can bring to its transit system.”

This collaboration aims to provide a safer environment for the many residents and visitors relying on RTC’s services, setting a precedent for other transit agencies across the country.
