The TSA continues to set records in passenger screening numbers, with a peak of 3 million passengers screened in a single day on July 7, 2024
Smiths Detection, a global leader in threat detection and security screening technologies, has been awarded a seven-year contract to support TechFlow’s Integrated Logistics Support agreement. This contract focuses on maintaining hold baggage X-ray inspection systems at airports across the United States for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). It is the largest service agreement in the history of Smiths Detection.
Under this agreement, Smiths Detection will handle both preventative and corrective maintenance for Explosive Detection Systems (EDS), including models such as the CTX 5800, CTX 9000, CTX 9400, and CTX 9800 SEIO scanners, as well as associated networking equipment. Currently, Smiths Detection has 486 EDS systems operational at 41 airports across the U.S.
The TSA continues to set records in passenger screening numbers, with a peak of 3 million passengers screened in a single day on July 7, 2024. In 2023, the TSA processed over 858 million travelers, with an average of 2.4 million passengers screened each day. As air travel demand is projected to double by 2040, according to the International Air Transport Association, maintaining and servicing security screening systems will become even more critical in keeping up with this rising demand.
