TikTok has announced an expansion of its U.S. Election Center within the app, aiming to provide users with accurate and accessible information as the 2024 U.S. election campaign gains momentum. This updated Election Center will feature a variety of tools designed to inform users about the election process and ensure they have access to reliable resources.

One of the key updates includes a partnership with Democracy Works, a nonprofit organization, to offer new, detailed voting FAQs. These FAQs will come from authoritative sources and are intended to help users better understand how elections operate. In addition, TikTok will collaborate with The Associated Press to provide real-time election results within the app in November.

The Election Center will also offer information on what’s on the ballot and provide links to trusted third-party sources. To further combat misinformation, TikTok is teaming up with MediaWise to create a new series focused on media literacy. This content will highlight common misinformation tactics, helping users become more aware of the potential for misleading information.

TikTok plans to expand these resources into other languages in the coming weeks, broadening access to election information for non-English speaking users. The platform is also committed to transparency, sharing regular updates on content removals related to the election. This is becoming increasingly important as more AI-generated content appears.

Additionally, TikTok has formed an internal U.S. Elections Integrity Advisory Group to guide its election information features. The company is also providing education to public figures on how to use its safety features and policies effectively.

TikTok is investing heavily in these integrity efforts, with plans to spend over $2 billion this year on trust and safety measures, which includes significant investment in election integrity and U.S. operations.

This investment comes at a time when TikTok’s future in the U.S. is uncertain due to ongoing legal battles over potential forced ownership changes. However, TikTok is emphasizing that every platform has a responsibility to ensure security and accuracy, particularly during critical events like national elections.
