US Issues Security Alert Over Possible Threat To Luxury Hotels In Karachi

The advisory comes against a backdrop of periodic political unrest, sectarian tensions and militant violence in Pakistan’s largest city

The US State Department has warned of a possible security threat to high-end hotels in Karachi, prompting restrictions on official travel for American government staff in the city.

In a statement, the US Consulate General in Karachi said it had received “a report of a threat directed at high-end hotels” and would bar staff from visiting such venues until further notice. The mission did not disclose details of the intelligence but said security protocols are routinely adjusted in response to credible information.

The advisory comes against a backdrop of periodic political unrest, sectarian tensions and militant violence in Pakistan’s largest city. US citizens in the country have been urged to avoid large gatherings, remain alert, and keep a low profile, particularly in places popular with foreigners such as luxury hotels, restaurants and shopping centres.

Pakistan remains under a Level 3 US travel warning, advising travellers to reconsider visits due to terrorism and armed conflict. The consulate said restrictions would be reviewed once threat levels were reassessed and encouraged Americans to register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for real-time updates.
