Case was registered under fraud and forgery at Gamdevi police station
Mumbai Police caught four people who were involved in various cybercrimes across India in a 22-day operation including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh.
A person named Rahul Dogra, a website developer and hacking expert was the mastermind behind it. He had a small office in Agra where he hired several people.
The police, led by Cyber Detection Officer Vikas Shinde, found strong evidence that connected Dogra to these online tricks. Dogra is in trouble for doing four bad things online, and he pretended to be other people and made fake websites for popular places where people eat. He used special computer skills to make the fake website show up first on the internet when people searched for it. Then, when someone visited the fake website and called the number on it, they would get tricked into sending money through WhatsApp.
Police officials said that the complainant, a 50-year-old school employee, was searching for the contact information of ‘Tiwari Brother’ on Google. She wanted to purchase sweets and snacks for the purpose of distributing them to the school’s teachers in celebration of the Parsi New Year.
“While she was searching for it on August 16, she came across a website and without realising that it was fake, she contacted the number mentioned on the website,” said an investigator.
Dogra did this many times until the police shut down his fake websites. Now, he’s in trouble for cheating, making fake things, pretending to be someone else, and breaking online rules. Another person involved, Rakesh Jatav, got caught in Mathura, and there were cases found in Delhi and Gwalior too.
