Increased Security Measures In Delhi, Mumbai Following Blasts In Kerala

Kerala Kalamassery Blast
The Delhi Police asserted that security has been stepped up in crowded areas of the city in view of the blasts

In response to the recent serial blasts at a Jehovah’s Witness prayer meeting in Kerala’s Kalamassery, authorities in Delhi and Mumbai have heightened security measures to ensure the safety of the public. The explosions have prompted the Delhi Police and Mumbai Police to take immediate action and tighten security in crowded areas of both cities.

Given the festive season, upcoming cricket matches, and the recent blasts in Kerala, the Mumbai Police has issued a high alert and implemented increased security measures. Furthermore, due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, security has already been heightened at the Chabad House, a Jewish centre in Mumbai.

Delhi Police and Intelligence Collaboration

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police is actively coordinating with intelligence agencies to gather crucial information and address any potential threats. The Delhi Police has emphasised that they are taking every input seriously and making necessary security arrangements in crowded places throughout the city.

“The Special Cell of the Delhi Police is in constant touch with intelligence agencies and is taking any input seriously. Security arrangements are being made at crowded places,” the Delhi Police said in a statement.

The series of explosions occurred shortly after a prayer meeting at a convention centre in Kalamassery. Regrettably, one person lost their life, and 36 others sustained injuries. Approximately 2,000 individuals had gathered for the meeting, which took place in Kalamassery, located about 10 kilometers from Kochi. This prayer gathering, which began on October 27, concluded today.

According to the Kerala Police, the attackers employed an improvised explosive device (IED) in this unfortunate incident. In response to the seriousness of the situation, a special investigation team (SIT) will be established to thoroughly look into the matter. Insider sources have revealed that the explosive was hidden within a tiffin box.

Upon learning about the string of explosions, Home Minister Amit Shah contacted Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Shah promptly ordered the heads of two central agencies specialising in counterterrorism investigations and operations, the NIA and the National Security Guard, to dispatch specialised teams to the scene and initiate an extensive investigation.

These measures aim to maintain public safety, restore a sense of security, and ensure that the culprits responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice.
